Chris was born and raised in the Bay Area. His love for dogs was apparent from an early age. His family’s first dog, Bon Bon, a little black terrier mix, changed his parents’ perception of dogs, and changed Chris’ life forever. As her main caretaker, trainer, and playmate, Chris grew extremely attached to Bon Bon, and her passing hit him hard. He knew in his heart that it wouldn’t be long before another dog came into his life.
Chris and h
is then girlfriend, now wife, Ann, moved to New York, where Ann attended nursing school. While in New York, Senshi, a stubborn, comical, and extremely energetic American Bulldog came into their lives. Senshi taught them the meaning of patience. Raising an 80+ lb. puppy in a one bedroom New York apartment is a trying experience, to say the least. Several obedience classes, daily trips to the dog park, and many failed potty training attempts later, Senshi grew into her skin, and Chris and Ann grew to love her crazy bulldog antics. It was in New York that Chris was first
introduced to the concept of dog daycare. Senshi regularly attended daycare, and Chris and Ann were grateful for the socialization she received, and even more so for the fact that she came home a tired and happy dog.
A cross-country road trip (with Senshi in tow) brought Chris and Ann back home to the Bay Area. It wasn’t long before Chris tired of corporate life, and decided it was time for his career path to take a drastic turn (for the better). His love for animals drew him towards animal welfare. He was given the opportunity to become a dog trainer at a local animal
shelter. As a dog trainer, Chris trained shelter dogs in basic obedience, temperament tested potential adoption candidates, and counseled adopters interested in bringing a shelter dog into their life. Enter Cosmo, a goofy, all white Pit Bull, with a penchant for grinning (that’s right, he actually grins, baring teeth is not always an aggressive display). Cosmo was required to spend two weeks in a foster home, which Chris was more than happy to provide. Cosmo never made it back to the shelter. He had found a permanent home with Ann, Chris, and Senshi.
Fully intending on stopping at two dogs, Chris and Ann remained blissfully unaware that this would soon change. Ann’s parents moved out of the country, and their Miniature Dachshund, Kiki, unfortunately could not go with them. Chris and Ann did not skip a beat, and gladly accepted Kiki into their home.
Chris and Ann’s love for animals does not stop at dogs. They have also fostered kittens, an
d they have been adopted by a stray grey tabby cat named Skittles. Skittles literally showed up on their doorstep, and after unsuccessfully trying to locate her home, they welcomed her into theirs.
